The child initially suffered life-threatening injuries in the fall. However, as the Offenburg police reported, the 18-month-old boy's condition subsequently stabilized, so there is no longer any acute danger to life. Rescue services initially flew the child by rescue helicopter to a hospital in Karlsruhe, where he is continuing to receive treatment.

According to the police, the child's parents were present in the apartment at the time of the incident. Why the child was able to fall out of the window is currently unclear. The officers' investigations are ongoing, as a police spokesperson explained: "Investigations into the sequence of events, how the fall from the window could have happened, are still ongoing.
