China has announced it will respond with countermeasures to possible US sanctions against Chinese AI companies. The trigger is accusations that the start-up Moonshot copied US models through so-called distillation.
China's Ministry of Commerce has threatened the USA with countermeasures should American sanctions against Chinese AI companies like Moonshot actually come into force.
Tensions between Washington and Beijing in the field of artificial intelligence continue to escalate. China's Ministry of Commerce accused the United States on Monday of "AI hegemonism" and announced that it would respond to any measure causing substantial damage to China's interests with all necessary means. "For any measure that substantially damages China's interests, China will take all necessary measures to resolutely protect its legitimate rights and interests," a ministry spokesperson stated in a statement.
