The Austrian swimmer Christian Giefing reached the semifinals of the 200 m freestyle at the Junior European Championships in Paris and in doing so broke the Austrian record held by Felix Auböck.

The Burgenlander Christian Giefing caused a sensation at the Junior European Championships in Paris. In the 200 m freestyle, he not only swam into the semifinals, but in his heat he also undercut the national record that Felix Auböck had set on 26 June 2022 at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest. According to the federation, official confirmation from the Austrian Swimming Federation (OSV) is imminent.

Giefing improved his own time, which he had set around four weeks ago at the national championships in Munich, by 92 hundredths of a second. In total, he lowered the OSV record by 0.15 seconds. The new mark catapults the 19-year-old into the circle of international medal contenders in his age group.
