Christoph Baumgartner of the ÖFB team will miss the upcoming Football World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico after an MRI scan on Tuesday morning confirmed a torn muscle fiber in his right thigh.

Diagnosis and Reaction from the Team Camp

The injury occurred on Monday during the warm-up before the friendly match against Tunisia. An MRI scan on Tuesday morning brought certainty: the damage is so severe that Baumgartner cannot participate in the World Cup finals.

ÖFB team manager Ralf Rangnick expressed deep concern over the absence of his protégé. “This is naturally very bitter news for Christoph and for us as a team. He is an important player and a central personality within our squad. Now, our full support is for his recovery,” Rangnick said.
