Vienna, June 29, 2026
ORF Director General-designate Clemens Pig has canceled the election of ORF directors scheduled for July 21 and is restructuring the selection process in accordance with the EU Media Freedom Act.
Background: Criticism of the timeline and sideletter
As reported by KURIER, Pig is drawing the consequences from the criticism of the previous approach. Applications for the four central directorates and the nine regional directorates can still be submitted until July 14. The election of the directors is now to be postponed to early to mid-August. Originally, according to STANDARD information, Pig would have had only about a week between the application deadline and the election date, which would have meant in effect only around three days for selection and proposals.
