Three major U.S. news organizations – CNN, MS NOW and Politico – say they have been denied access to the White House grounds after their press badges were no longer accepted at the entrances.

The decision came on Friday and affects three prominent outlets in American capital reporting. According to the affected journalists, they were refused entry to the White House when their press badges could not be scanned at the security checkpoints. The revocation of access rights means that, for now, the newsrooms can no longer send reporters onto the government grounds for press gaggles or background talks.

MS NOW correspondent Akayla Gardner described the incident directly from the entrance. She said her press badge could not be scanned to enter the grounds: "A red light started flashing." Access was technically blocked as a result. Politico journalist Cheyenne Haslett reported a similar experience: according to her editor-in-chief Jonathan Greenberger, she was also turned away by White House security, and her press badge was taken from her.
