The Austrian federal government of ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS has anchored the establishment of a Federal Public Prosecutor's Office in its government programme; implementation requires a two-thirds majority in parliament.

The parties ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS have agreed in their government programme on the introduction of a Federal Public Prosecutor's Office. According to the coalition partners, this is intended to organise the prosecution of serious crimes more centrally and efficiently in the future. The precise design of the new authority, its responsibilities and its relationship to the existing public prosecutor's offices have not yet been publicly defined in detail.
