Berlin, 10 June 2026

Leading politicians of the black-red coalition are meeting with unions and employers at the Chancellery in Berlin on Wednesday evening to discuss reforms in the areas of taxes, labor, social affairs, and bureaucratic reduction.

Tempered Expectations Ahead of the Top-Level Meeting

In the run-up to the meeting, Union representatives visibly strove to lower expectations for the gathering. "Zumindest waren Vertreter der Union am Dienstag darum bemüht, die Erwartungen an das Treffen immer weiter herunterzuschrauben", according to reporting. The general secretaries of the CDU and SPD, Linnemann and Klüssendorf, had likewise made clear that they did not expect any decisions from the meeting. In the party bodies on Monday, everyone was drilled not to expect too much.
