At the coalition meeting in Münster, the Union and SPD agreed to implement the more than 30 proposals from the pension commission in a joint reform package by the end of the year.

At the coalition meeting in Münster, the Union and SPD agreed on a joint roadmap for pension reform. Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Labor Minister Bärbel Bas want to bundle the more than 30 proposals from the pension commission into a single package and put them to a vote in the Bundestag this year, as reported by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur citing the coalition paper from Münster.

According to those involved, at the center of the plan is also the controversial abolition of the pension without deductions after 45 contribution years. This provision had triggered fierce resistance among the SPD grassroots in recent weeks. The coalition nevertheless intends to stick with the plan and is now seeking a political compromise.
