Cody Gakpo announced ahead of the Dutch World Cup round of 16 match against Morocco in Monterrey that his second son died during pregnancy, and intends to finish the tournament nonetheless.
Dutch professional footballer Cody Gakpo publicly revealed shortly before the first knockout match of the World Cup in Monterrey that he and his partner had suffered the loss of their second child during pregnancy. Cody Gakpo turned to the public via Instagram and at the same time asked for his family's privacy to be respected. Gakpo and his partner had only announced on May 30 via Instagram that they were expecting another child.
Gakpo wrote in his Instagram story: 'Das ist eine unglaublich schwere Zeit für unsere Familie.' The couple already has a two-year-old son. The news of the unborn child's death reached the public only a few hours before the round of 16 match against Morocco at the Estadio BBVA in Monterrey.
