Cologne, 01 July 2026

For the first time in the history of the Catholic Church in Germany, Cologne Cathedral is charging admission from 1 July 2026: adults pay twelve euros, but they do not have to leave the church between every visit.

The deadline marks the beginning of a new era for Cologne Cathedral. As the cathedral chapter, which serves as the governing body of the cathedral, announced, visits for adults will cost twelve euros from now on. This makes Cologne Cathedral the first Catholic church in Germany to charge a regular admission fee.

However, the regulation provides for numerous exceptions. Worship attendees and members of the Cathedral Building Association (Dombauverein) will continue to receive free admission, as the cathedral chapter explains. In addition, there are discounts, for example for students or people with severe disabilities.
