The Diddl mouse is back in German retail after years of absence: hundreds of people lined up in front of Berlin branches on launch day, and collector's items are fetching prices of several hundred euros.
The relaunch is backed by Diddl creator Thomas Goletz together with the Warimex corporate group. Goletz brought the character to life in the 1990s — originally designed as a kangaroo and later transformed into a mouse. More than 30 years after her first success, the cult figure is now officially returning to store shelves.
The rush on launch day was enormous. At the "ThePlayce" department store in Berlin, people were already lining up before the doors opened to get their hands on the colorful Diddl products. As a Berlin bookseller reported, new Diddl collector's magazines were "torn out of the hands" of staff. Store owner Sven Dötterl estimates the crowd at approximately 500 people.
