Cottbus, 02 July 2026

FC Energie Cottbus announced on Thursday the permanent signing of striker Lucas Copado from SC Paderborn, finally sealing a transfer that had already been planned in the winter.

According to announcements from Bundesliga-promoted side SC Paderborn and second-division newcomers Cottbus, the 22-year-old centre-forward is moving back to Lusatia. Squad planner Maniyel Nergiz explained that the club had wanted to bring the attacker back in the winter: "We would have loved to have Lucas back with us already in the winter, but ultimately we weren't able to make the transfer happen then." Now the move is complete. The two sides agreed to remain silent on the transfer terms.

Nergiz also stressed the player's explicit desire: "Lucas really wanted to come back to Cottbus, to a coach and an environment he knows and feels comfortable with." Head coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz, who already knows the striker from his loan spell, was also positive: "All of that we were able to see during his year with us in the 3. Liga, and we really wanted to bring him back. We know and appreciate what he can do. That fits with what we want to play."
