CSU board member Hans Reichhart called for the abolition of the Mütterrente on Bayerischer Rundfunk, thereby intensifying resistance within the party's own ranks against the social policy project of CSU leader Markus Söder.
Reichhart calls for an end to the Mütterrente
CSU board member Hans Reichhart called for the abolition of the Mütterrente in an interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk. The CSU's treasurer told the broadcaster that the reform debate had to "start at zero" and that past projects had to be questioned. Specifically, he advocated "sacrificing sacred cows like the Mütterrente."
The Mütterrente is considered the pet project of CSU leader and Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder. Against the objections of the other parties, Söder had negotiated its expansion into the coalition agreement between the Union and the SPD. Previously, mothers who had their children before 1992 received two and a half pension points; the expanded Mütterrente provides these women with an additional half pension point.
