A cyberattack on a medical service provider has led to the theft of patient data from several major hospitals in Lower Saxony, including the University Medical Center Göttingen and the Medical School Hanover.
Scope of the Breach
The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) confirmed to NDR that hackers stole the data of approximately 2,500 patients. The "Göttinger Tageblatt" first reported on the incident.
The Medical School Hanover (MHH) was also affected. According to the newspaper, citing an MHH spokesperson, hackers accessed 2,975 data records. Of those, 813 "could contain sensitive data," the report stated.
Klinikum Oldenburg reported on Tuesday that 433 patient data records were compromised. The records date from the period between 2005 and 2021.
