The Prague Higher Regional Court has rejected an appeal by the convicted right-wing extremist Marla Svenja Liebich against her extradition to Germany, where she is to serve a prison sentence imposed in 2023.
Background of the case
According to a court spokeswoman, the Oberlandesgericht in Prague dismissed Liebich's complaints and upheld the decision of the lower court, meaning that Czech authorities may hand the suspect over to Germany. A spokesperson for the Staatsanwaltschaft Halle, the German public prosecutor's office handling the case, said Liebich is expected to be transferred to the correctional facility (Justizvollzugsanstalt) in Chemnitz within ten days. "Über die weitere Unterbringung entscheide dann die Anstaltsleitung," the prosecutor's office added, referring to the prison administration in Chemnitz.
Liebich had challenged the extradition in part out of concern that she might be housed in a men's facility. "Liebich gab im Laufe der Verhandlung an, wegen der möglichen Unterbringung in einem Männergefängnis nicht ausgeliefert werden zu wollen," the German broadcaster Deutschlandfunk reported. The decision on her specific placement within the Chemnitz facility will rest with the prison administration, the prosecutor's office said.
