Around one in three people in Germany report having experienced health problems due to heat, according to the DAK Heat Report 2026, presented by the health insurer DAK-Gesundheit in Berlin on Monday.
For the DAK-Gesundheit heat report, 1,519 German citizens aged 18 and over were surveyed online by the Forsa Institute. The representative survey was conducted from June 22 to July 1, 2026. Almost one in three people in Germany complain of symptoms such as exhaustion, circulatory problems, or sleep disorders, according to the DAK Heat Report 2026.
The most common symptoms included fatigue and lethargy (71 percent), circulatory problems (64 percent), and sleep problems (68 percent). Dizziness (32 percent) and loss of appetite (27 percent) also occurred. The health insurer DAK-Gesundheit stated that these figures were higher than in previous years.
In addition, more women than men reported suffering from the heat. Among the women surveyed, 40 percent said they were affected — almost twice as high as the figure for men (21 percent).
Gender Differences in Heat-Related Symptoms
Despite the widespread symptoms, only a small share of those affected seek medical help. According to the findings, five percent of those surveyed consulted a doctor because of heat-related symptoms. Just 13 percent of respondents even felt that a doctor's visit would have been advisable.
