Designated Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, together with the leaders of the three coalition parties, presented the program of a new center-left minority government in Copenhagen on Tuesday, which is focused on reducing the cost of living and continuing the restrictive immigration policy.

Long negotiations after historically weak election result

Negotiations on forming the government had lasted almost ten weeks – a historically long period by Danish standards. The parliamentary election had taken place on March 24, in which the Social Democrats under Frederiksen, although becoming the strongest force, achieved their worst result since 1903. The election had been overshadowed by threats from US President Donald Trump against the Danish autonomous territory of Greenland.
