At the Meidling Cemetery in Vienna, an approximately 800-meter-long Silent Walk trail with fitness equipment and a "Plauderbankerl" (chat bench) has been set up, costing more than 35,000 euros and triggering a political debate about priorities and respect for the deceased.
The Meidling Cemetery in Vienna has gained an unusual attraction: along an approximately 800-meter-long Silent Walk trail, training equipment has been installed, supplemented by a so-called Plauderbankerl. The City of Vienna justifies the project by saying that cemeteries can be not only places of mourning but also natural oases and areas of recreation. According to the information available, the entire redesign package costs more than 35,000 euros.
