Denmark's former Queen Margrethe II has made her first official appearance following her recent hospital stays, leaning on a rollator for support.

The 86-year-old attended the presentation of the "Prince Henrik Prize" at Fredensborg Palace on Thursday, as photos of the event confirm. It is a literary prize named after her late husband. It was her first public appearance following her discharge from the hospital.

Just last Saturday, Margrethe had been forced to cancel an engagement: the inauguration of a bridge named after her. The task was taken over on her behalf by her grandson, Crown Prince Christian (20), according to reports. In early 2024, Margrethe had unexpectedly abdicated and, after 52 years as Denmark's head of state, handed over the throne to her son, King Frederik X.
