About one third of Deutsche Bahn's customer service staff have accepted the voluntary offer to wear a body camera while on duty. DB Regio chief Harmen van Zijderveld announced the goal of reaching a 50 percent rate by mid-year.
Deutsche Bahn has been equipping its customer service staff at stations and on trains with bodycams for several weeks now, and roughly one third have so far taken up the voluntary offer.
The devices are worn on the outer clothing and, in their current version, record only video footage. If a dangerous situation arises, the devices can be switched on at the press of a button. If the situation remains tense, another button press starts the recording.
According to DB Regio chief Harmen van Zijderveld, the company is pursuing the goal of making the cameras standard equipment for customer service staff. By mid-year, they want to reach a 50 percent rate. Enough bodycams are available.
