The number of attacks on Deutsche Bahn employees and federal police officers has risen significantly in the first five months of this year, according to a response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior to a query from Left Party member of parliament Dietmar Bartsch.

As the Federal Ministry of the Interior stated in response to a query from Left Party member of parliament Dietmar Bartsch, 1,630 Deutsche Bahn employees became victims of crimes in the first five months of the current year. In the same period, 4,672 federal police officers became victims of attacks. "Die Bundespolizei ist unter anderem für die Sicherheit bei der Bahn zuständig," the response states.

The police's input statistics recorded 175 cases of grievous bodily harm against rail employees for the period from January to the end of May this year. The calculation yields an average of 5.5 physical attacks per day, according to the ministry. This means the situation has worsened compared to the previous year: in the first ten months of 2025, the average was still five attacks per day. "Rechnerisch waren es dieses Jahr acht," the ministry writes with regard to the combined assessment.
