DFB and Klopp close to agreement: Negotiations with Red Bull in final phase

The former Liverpool coach is contractually bound to the beverage company as "Head of Global Soccer" until 2029. This commitment is considered a central hurdle on the path to an appointment. Still on the table are a million-euro transfer fee for the preferred candidate, who is bound as "Head of Global Soccer" to the beverage company until 2029, or a possible retention of Klopp at Red Bull in other functions parallel to the national team coach job.

Models of an agreement

A direct conversation between Klopp and Mintzlaff in the USA is still pending according to information from those close to the matter and is expected to take place this week. Only afterward will the DFB inform the responsible officials, it was said.

On the day of reporting, the decisive association officials will be informed about the status of the negotiations on Wednesday. DFB President Bernd Neuendorf had previously already informed committees about the status of the discussions. However, before an official announcement, the responsible DFB committees must still give their approval.

Only with the approval of the officials can Klopp ultimately be appointed as Julian Nagelsmann's successor as national team coach. He would thus become the 13th head coach of the DFB national team.

Nils Karben recently described Klopp as „Einer der charmant ist, der Demut hat". The DFB did not officially comment on the developments on Wednesday and referred to the ongoing discussions.

Outlook: Nations League in September

The first international matches after the World Cup exit are scheduled between September 24 and October 4. In the Nations League, the German team will face the Netherlands, Serbia, and Greece in two matches. By then, the DFB must have resolved the coaching question.

One thing is clear: An announcement will not be made until after the World Cup. Negotiations with Red Bull regarding cooperation are underway, with a solution appearing within reach. Klopp can take on the top job – if all involved clear the way.
