Hamburger SV has advanced to the second round of the DFB-Pokal with a 1:0 victory at third-division club SC Verl, with 16-year-old Louis Lemke scoring the decisive goal.
The match took place at the Sportclub Arena in East Westphalia, which was sold out with 5,207 spectators, as multiple sources report in agreement. Third-division side SC Verl, who had qualified for the cup on sporting merit, delivered an intensely contested match against the Bundesliga representatives from Hamburg. In the end, however, a single goal decided the encounter in HSV's favour.
The decisive strike was scored by Louis Lemke. At 16 years of age, he is among the youngest goalscorers in a DFB-Pokal match in Hamburger SV's recent club history. His goal sparked great celebrations not only among the team but also among the travelling HSV supporters.
