Hamburg, June 03, 2026
The DFB Sports Court has imposed fines totaling 612,000 euros on Hamburger SV and FC St. Pauli following the massive burning of pyrotechnics at the Hamburg city derby on January 23.
Amount of Fines and Possible Use
As announced by the Sports Court of the German Football Association (DFB) on Wednesday in Frankfurt am Main, Hamburger SV must pay a fine of 253,000 euros. FC St. Pauli was even more heavily penalized with 359,000 euros. However, both clubs can reallocate parts of the fines to their own security or violence prevention measures – St. Pauli, according to the court, up to 120,000 euros.
According to the DFB, the amount of the sanctions is based on the number and type of fireworks and firecrackers ignited. Both clubs must provide proof of the security or prevention measures taken to the DFB by December 31. The remaining fines are to be donated to football-related foundations.
