Within just a few hours, 39 forest fires broke out in Greece, according to the fire department, the most difficult of which was on the island of Salamis, located off Athens.
The Greek fire department reported an unusually high number of fires within a short period of time on Tuesday. According to their information, 39 fires had been registered that flared up simultaneously or in rapid succession.
The fire department described the blaze on the island of Salamis as particularly difficult. The island is located in the Saronic Gulf directly off Athens and is densely populated. Since the fire is located near the center of the capital, there is a particularly dangerous situation, it was said.
