Drone attacks have hit the East-West pipeline in Saudi Arabia, shutting down one of the kingdom's most important export routes for oil transport.

The attacks struck the pipeline at a sensitive point in Saudi energy infrastructure. The more than 1,200-kilometer pipeline can pump up to seven million barrels of oil per day from the Persian Gulf region to the Red Sea coast for shipping. This makes the pipeline one of the country's central export routes and of great importance for supplying Western markets.

The East-West pipeline, also known as the "Petroline," runs from the oil fields in eastern Saudi Arabia across the country to the loading terminal facilities on the Red Sea. From there, the oil is shipped westward through the Bab al-Mandab strait and other parts of the international sea route.
