Drug Seizure in Lienz: Cannabis, Mushrooms & Crystal Meth Recovered

During the search, officers seized, in addition to the cannabis plants in the garden, further quantities of cannabis buds inside the property. They also found a small amount of dried psilocybin-containing mushrooms, which are classified as psychotropic substances, as well as two containers on which residues of Crystal Meth were found. All seized substances were transferred to a Criminal Technical Institute for further chemical analysis.

Legal Classification

Crystal Meth is one of the most dangerous synthetic drugs and is subject to particularly strict controls in Austria. Even small quantities can lead to severe addiction, psychological damage, and long-term health problems. The seizure of such substances is therefore a priority of police work in the fight against drug trafficking.

The Lienz police station confirmed the find in a release. The investigations were conducted in close coordination with the Innsbruck Public Prosecutor's Office, which will decide on further investigative measures. Details regarding the identity of the suspect and the exact extent of the residue on the containers were not released with reference to the ongoing proceedings.

Smaller drug seizures occur repeatedly in the Lienz district, although the recovery of Crystal Meth in East Tyrol is documented relatively rarely. Authorities view the current case as an indication that drug trafficking also takes place outside urban centers and announced increased controls.

Consequences for the Suspect

The suspect now faces a report under the Narcotics Substances Act. Since the seizure took place during a voluntary follow-up inspection, the operation proceeded without incident. No one was injured.

The municipality of Lienz and regional prevention offices were informed of the find. Addiction counseling centers in East Tyrol continue to see the seizure as cause to draw attention to the risks of synthetic drugs and the existing support services for those affected.

Police and the Innsbruck Public Prosecutor's Office are continuing their investigations. Should the suspicion be substantiated, the Public Prosecutor's Office will decide on whether to file charges. Further information is expected once the proceedings have been concluded.

Police are also calling on eyewitnesses and anyone with information to report suspicious observations related to narcotics via the nearest police stations.
