Drunk driver causes fatal collision with motorcyclist in Esternberg

Due to the force of the impact, the motorcyclist sustained such severe injuries that he died shortly after being admitted to Klinikum Passau. The car driver survived the crash; no further details about his state of health after the accident were initially released.

A breathalyzer test administered to the car driver showed a reading of 1.34 per mille. The measured alcohol level was therefore significantly above the 0.5 per mille limit applicable in Austria and well above the 0.8 per mille threshold at which a driver is presumed to be unfit to drive.
