Return of thunderstorms across the North Sea
The German Weather Service (DWD) has warned of severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and gale-force gusts for parts of Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern that are expected to return from the direction of the North Sea on Sunday.
Already on Friday evening, according to the DWD, partly heavy thunderstorms moved across parts of Germany. The damage remained limited according to the weather service: Toppled trees and broken branches caused regional traffic disruptions, for example on the Berlin S-Bahn. In Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt, there was occasionally heavy rain with flooding of streets and aquaplaning on the highways. On the A71, for instance, there were two accidents with three slightly injured people, and on the A4 a van driver was slightly injured in a collision.
