A powerful weather front will sweep across Germany on Sunday, bringing heavy rainfall, severe thunderstorms, and a dramatic end to the recent heatwave, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).
The DWD has issued severe weather warnings for multiple regions, forecasting a volatile mix of torrential rain, large hail, and squall-like wind gusts. A DWD meteorologist stressed the unpredictable nature of the storms, stating, 'Es müssen alle damit rechnen. Wer getroffen wird, das müssen wir sehen.'
Locally, heavy rainfall is possible, with up to 25 liters of rain per square meter falling within a short time. In severe weather, that amount could double to around 40 liters per square meter within a single hour, significantly increasing the risk of flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
