The e-commerce association Bevh has spoken out in favor of more flexible rules on Sunday opening hours in German retail, while the Verdi trade union rejects such relaxations.

Alien Mulyk, chief executive of the e-commerce association Bevh, said the association does not expect any disadvantages for online retail from a change in the Sunday opening rules. "It is often argued that online retail benefits from the existing rules compared to brick-and-mortar retail. However, we do not assume that a change would have a disadvantageous effect on us," Mulyk explained. Rigid regulations no longer match people's needs and everyday realities: "Consumers must be able to decide for themselves when and how they shop."
