Following the incident, the public prosecutor's office was called in. It can order a technical examination of the e-scooter to determine whether a technical defect – particularly to the brakes – caused the accident. Such expert reports are typically prepared by specialists.

E-scooters are a commonly used means of transportation in Vienna. The city points to existing regulations on maximum speed and alcohol limits, as well as the recommendation to check vehicles for brakes, tires, and lighting before use. There is no indication of fault by other road users based on the available information.

Residents and passersby on Ketzergasse reported that e-scooters regularly travel through the section at higher speeds. According to the district council, stop signs and road markings are intended to draw attention to the traffic situation. Whether infrastructural measures played a role in the accident remains unclear.

Only once the technical expert report is available can a final assessment be made as to whether brake failure was the cause of the accident. Until then, the suspicion remains a possible, not a confirmed, cause.
