France, together with other European partners, has pledged additional funding and logistical support. This is intended to secure the delivery of materials to remote health zones. Neighboring countries of Congo are also preparing for possible cross-border cases and stepping up surveillance at border crossings.

The current outbreak is reminiscent of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa between 2014 and 2016, which claimed more than 11,000 lives. Experts emphasize that today's tools—faster tests, more effective vaccines, and proven treatment protocols—improve the situation. The prerequisite, however, is that these resources actually reach those affected.

What Will Be Decisive in the Coming Weeks

The WHO classifies the outbreak as one of the most severe health crises in the region in years. Should the funding gap not be closed, a further rise in case numbers is threatened, warn staff on the ground. At the same time, experiences from previous outbreaks show that a consistent response can significantly slow transmission within a few months.

Humanitarian organizations are calling for better public education about symptoms, routes of infection, and protective measures. Local radio stations and outreach teams are just as important as medical interventions in dispelling rumors and rebuilding the population's trust.

The coming weeks are considered decisive. If vaccination campaigns can be expanded and treatment centers in the hotspots can be strengthened in terms of staffing, experts say there is a real chance of containing the epidemic. Otherwise, the warning is, the situation in the region could worsen further.
