Frankfurt am Main, 23 July 2026

The European Central Bank's Governing Council decided on 23 July 2026 to keep the three key ECB interest rates unchanged, citing inflation expected to remain above target into the first half of 2027 and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.

The decision was announced after a meeting in Frankfurt am Main. "The Governing Council today decided to keep the three key ECB interest rates unchanged," the bank said in a statement. President Christine Lagarde, who chaired the press conference alongside Vice-President Boris Vujčić, framed the decision as part of a cautious, data-driven approach in which the central bank is "not pre-committing to a particular rate path."
