Frankfurt am Main, 11 June 2026

The European Central Bank's Governing Council raised the euro area's three key interest rates by 25 basis points on 11 June 2026, with Christine Lagarde attributing the move in part to inflationary pressures stemming from the war in the Middle East.

Background and Meeting Context

The rate increase takes effect on 17 June 2026. The interest rate on the deposit facility rises to 2.25%, the main refinancing operations rate to 2.40% and the marginal lending facility rate to 2.65%. The decision came at the conclusion of the Governing Council's meeting in Frankfurt am Main, where Boris Vujčić joined Lagarde at the subsequent press conference.
