A press vehicle belonging to the French sports newspaper L'Équipe crashed into the barriers upon the arrival of the Tour de France in Ussel on Sunday, injuring eight people.

According to L'Équipe itself, the accident occurred less than 500 meters before the finish line in the run-in to the finish of the ninth stage of the Tour de France. The vehicle had struck the barriers along the route, the newspaper reported. Eight people were injured, and no details about their exact condition were initially available.

Stage shortened due to heat

The stage had been shortened earlier due to the extreme weather conditions. Temperatures of up to 40 degrees were recorded in the Ussel region on Sunday. A shortening of a stage due to heat is unprecedented in the long history of the Tour de France and underscores the exceptional conditions under which the race took place on this day.
