Eight people, including two children, were rescued from the water at around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon following a boat accident on the Danube near the Ybbs-Persenbeug power plant in the district of Melk.

According to Philipp Gutlederer, spokesperson for Notruf Niederösterreich, those affected were part of a travel group of around 60 people who were traveling on the Danube in kayaks and canoes. According to Philipp Gutlederer of Notruf Niederösterreich, they are believed to have capsized while traveling in a group with kayaks and canoes. The eight capsized individuals were rescued from the water using a Viadonau working boat and by the fire department.
