Following the death of eleven fawns in a meadow near Lichtenau in the Mittelsachsen district, police are investigating potential violations of animal welfare and federal nature conservation laws after a resident filed a criminal complaint against an agricultural company.

On Whit Monday, eleven young deer fawns were killed by mowing machines in a meadow near Lichtenau. Resident Nico Haberkorn told MDR SACHSEN that he and his family became aware of the extent of the incident because birds of prey were circling screeching over the carcasses. The shocking scene occurred on an area that, according to Haberkorn, belongs to the agricultural cooperative in Claußnitz.

Haberkorn stated that residents had already informed the cooperative's management a week prior that numerous young deer fawns were present in the meadow. However, these warnings were ignored. On Whit Monday, the animals were then literally run over during mowing operations. Haberkorn summarized the situation with the drastic expression "fawns shredded."
