US pharmaceutical group Eli Lilly has raised its sales forecast for the current year again following a surprisingly strong second quarter, continuing to benefit from high demand for its weight-loss medications.
In the second quarter, group revenue climbed by almost half year-on-year to just under $23 billion. The company thereby exceeded the expectations of many analysts, who had previously assumed somewhat slower growth.
The largest share of the increase once again came from the two drugs Mounjaro and Zepbound. Both products are approved in the United States and in several European markets as a therapy for severe obesity and as a diabetes medication, respectively, and are marketed in the United States as so-called weight-loss drugs.
