Emanuel Aiwu leaves Sturm Graz and moves to Apollon Limassol

Weiper as successor in the squad

What is remarkable is the temporal connection with another personnel matter at Sturm Graz. Just a few hours before the announcement of Aiwu's move, the club had presented striker Nelson Weiper as a new signing. The attacker comes from German Bundesliga side Mainz 05, to whom he is still contracted until 2029, and is expected to gain playing time in Graz.

Weiper is part of the German U21 national team squad and is considered one of Germany's biggest striking talents. At Sturm Graz, which has won the Austrian league title five times in its history, the offensive player is set to intensify the competition for places up front and recommend himself for higher tasks.

With Aiwu's departure, Sturm Graz is responding to a sporting realignment in defense. The club had repeatedly emphasized in the past that, as part of the squad overhaul, established players could also leave the club if there was no longer a sporting perspective. The transfer to Cyprus is regarded as a pragmatic solution for all involved.

Apollon Limassol is one of the most traditional clubs in Cyprus and regularly plays in the upper echelons of the domestic league as well as in European competitions.
