Sturm Graz extends with attacker Leon Grgic long-term

The new squad number traditionally serves as a symbol for the goal scorer in Sturm's attack. By awarding it to Grgic, the club is underlining that he is to play a defining role in shaping the sporting future up front.

Grgic is, however, not yet fit to play. In December 2025, he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture that has kept him out of action ever since. The injury is one of the more severe in football and requires months of rehabilitation.

Injury and rehab

"Grgic, whose rehab is proceeding as planned according to the club," will therefore likely not be fully available again until the course of the coming season. The club is satisfied with the healing progress.

With the contract extension and the new number, Sturm Graz is sending a signal of appreciation for the youngster. The move is also a signal to the fans in Styria that the club is backing its own talents.

"Vice-champion Puntigamer Sturm Graz has extended the contract with attacker Leon Grgic 'long-term'." This sets the sporting course for the coming years, in which the club wants to rebuild its attack.

The official club name continues to include the naming rights partner Puntigamer. The brewery from Graz is part of the brand and appears in the club's wordmark. Sportingly too, Sturm Graz remains ambitious after the vice-championship.

Outlook on the new season

For the coming 2026/27 season, Sturm Graz plans to set new accents in attack with the recovered Grgic. As soon as he is fully fit, he is to fill the role of number 9.

The contract extension gives the player additional security and calm during his rehab phase. In return, the club secures the services of a striker who, despite his young age, already has top-flight experience.
