Emma Aicher: DSV Sports Director on Pressure and Expectations

Maier also addressed the pressure that can arise from external expectations. According to his account, a person comes under pressure when expectations cannot be met and they then have to cope with those unfulfilled expectations.

Expectations as a Challenge

The statement highlights a central challenge for promising athletes: the ability to perform well can open up opportunities, but can also trigger high expectations. In this way, the DSV presents Aicher's talent both as a strength and as a sensitive phase in her career.

The alpine World Cup is now at the center of attention. According to the available reports, Sölden is one of the key venues of the season in the overall World Cup and therefore an important setting for the German athletes to compete.

Alongside Aicher, other skiers mentioned in connection with the event include Raphael Haaser, Marco Odermatt, Brennsteiner, Christian Mitter and Loïc Meillard. The list illustrates the international environment in which the German athletes compete.

Another international point of reference is Brazil's Pinheiro Braathen. His Super-G debut was originally planned for late November and early December at Copper Mountain and Beaver Creek in the USA. Part of the attention is therefore already focused on the winter in North America.

International Perspective in Alpine Skiing

The parallel between Aicher's situation and the international winter sports scene is striking. On the one hand, great potential and expectations in alpine skiing are being discussed. On the other hand, Braathen is an athlete preparing for a planned debut on a prominent stage.

Maier's assessment is therefore more than a blanket expression of praise. It describes how the German Ski Association evaluates a highly talented athlete while also identifying the risks associated with expectations, performance pressure and possible setbacks.

Significance for the Season

It will be crucial for the rest of the season how Aicher experiences this phase and whether she can draw on her sporting abilities under the conditions described. Reliable forecasts cannot be made based on the available facts; in any event, Maier has clearly identified the opportunities available to the DSV.
