Cottbus, 16 June 2026
Energie Cottbus, promoted to the 2. Bundesliga, have signed goalkeeper Marcel Lotka from second-division relegation side Fortuna Düsseldorf, finding a successor for first-choice keeper Marius Funk, who is moving on to VfB Stuttgart.
Marcel Lotka moves to Cottbus on a free transfer. The 25-year-old goalkeeper, born on 25 May 2001 in Duisburg, becomes Energie Cottbus' fifth signing of the summer. As the club announced, the contract became void following Fortuna's relegation to the 3. Liga, meaning no transfer fee was due. His previous contract with Fortuna was actually set to run until 30 June 2028.
At Energie Cottbus, currently second in the 3. Liga table, Lotka is considered a strong candidate for the number-one goalkeeper position. Head coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz, whose squad numbers 28 players, sees an experienced professional in the new signing: "Wir sind froh, dass wir mit Marcel Lotka einen gestandenen Torhüter von der Perspektive hier in unserem Club überzeugen konnten", said Wollitz according to dpa.
