Erste Group Bank AG paid nearly twice as much to the public sector in bank levies in the first half of 2026 as in the prior-year period, amounting to 392 million euros compared with 197 million euros.

As the published figures show, the levies are distributed across several key markets of the banking group. In Hungary, bank levies rose from 109 million euros in the first half of 2025 to 189 million euros in the current reporting period. Hungary thus remains the largest single burden within the group in the area of bank levies.

The burden also increased significantly in Romania. Erste Group reports a rise here from 20 million euros to 39 million euros. The percentage increase in Romania is therefore even steeper than in Hungary, even though the absolute amount remains lower.
