The funds will go to four companies in four federal states: 353 million euros to SME Element 3-5 GmbH for a facility in Baesweiler in North Rhine-Westphalia, 214 million euros to Vishay Siliconix Itzehoe GmbH ("Vishay") in Schleswig-Holstein, 74.4 million euros to KLA-Tencor MIE GmbH ("KLA") for a site in Weilburg in Hesse, and 17.9 million euros to KETEK GmbH in Munich (Bavaria).

The EU Commission justified the approval with the goal of strengthening the European semiconductor industry and becoming more independent from manufacturers outside Europe. The responsible EU Commissioner, Teresa Ribera, stated: "Durch die Förderung von Innovationen im Halbleiterbereich stärken wir unsere technologische Souveränität und die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit Europas".
