Dresden, July 2, 2026
Chip manufacturer Infineon commissioned a new factory for power semiconductors in Dresden on Thursday, thereby doubling its production capacity at the site.
According to the company, the new facility, named "Smart Power Fab," is considered one of the most modern semiconductor production sites in the world. It cost around five billion euros and is being subsidized with approximately one billion euros from public funds. „Die Smart Power Fab ist ein Bau der Superlative und kostete rund fünf Milliarden Euro", the company said.
From the groundbreaking in early May 2023, it took just three years to complete. „Seit dem Spatenstich Anfang Mai 2023 vergingen gerade einmal drei Jahre bis zur Fertigstellung." The plant is also being commissioned three months ahead of schedule. „Das Werk wird drei Monate früher als geplant in Betrieb genommen."
