The General Court of the European Union has confirmed the €4.125 billion fine imposed on Google by the European Commission for having imposed illegal restrictions on Android smartphone manufacturers and telecommunications operators in order to strengthen the dominance of its search engine.

A Long-Awaited Decision Following the 2022 Verdict

In a ruling handed down in Luxembourg, the European judges largely rejected the appeal filed by the American technology giant, thereby confirming the record sanction pronounced several years ago by the European Commission. The Court made only a minor adjustment to the initial amount of €4.34 billion, reducing it to €4.125 billion. This decision adds another building block to the jurisprudential framework aimed at regulating the power of major digital platforms.
