The European Union vowed on Wednesday not to be intimidated by massive Russian threats of attacks on Kyiv, as new strikes across Ukraine killed at least three civilians and injured more than 100 others.
Deadly Strikes Across Ukraine
EU Commission spokesperson Anitta Hipper described the threats as an "inacceptable escalation" in a statement on the online service X. She called on Russia to stop shelling civilians and to agree to a "full and unconditional ceasefire."
The latest barrage hit the capital, Kyiv, where two people were killed and 91 were wounded, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attacks underscored the relentless pressure on civilian areas despite international diplomatic efforts.
Further east, new Russian air strikes on the Odesa region killed at least one person and injured 15 others, local officials reported. The strikes continued a pattern of targeting urban centers far from the front lines.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking during a visit to India, reflected on the ongoing violence. "Every time you see these massive attacks from one side or the other, it is a sobering reminder of why this is a terrible war," Rubio said. "It must be ended," he added.
