Vilnius, 20 May 2026
Lithuania's capital Vilnius activated air raid alarms and temporarily closed its airport on 20 May 2026 amid drone warnings, while Ukrainian strikes reportedly disrupted significant Russian oil refining capacity.
Authorities in Vilnius issued air raid warnings and evacuated the airport after detecting unidentified aerial activity near the Belarus border, marking the latest security incident in the Baltic region.
The alert came as NATO General Erhard Bühler noted Ukraine's increasing effectiveness in drone warfare, stating Kyiv now intercepts over 90% of Russian drones and missiles.
Ukrainian forces have reportedly damaged or disrupted operations at multiple Russian oil refineries, affecting about 25% of the country's total refining capacity, according to Reuters.
